Gold Vermeil Earrings

Vermeil has a real definition and most gold-tone jewellery does not meet it: gold of at least 10 karat, at least 2.5 microns thick, over a solid sterling base. Anything thinner or over brass is gold plate, and the difference shows up on a customer’s ear within a season.

That thickness is the whole point. Flash plating at half a micron wears through at the contact points in weeks; 2.5 microns survives daily wear for years. We plate to specification and state it, because a brand selling vermeil needs to be able to say so accurately.

Three tones cover almost everything: 14k for a warm everyday gold, 18k for a deeper richer colour, and rose gold for a pink cast. Posts and backs are plated to match, so there is no colour break where the finding meets the piece.
