Enamel gives you flat, saturated, permanent colour in a way printing on metal never manages. The colour sits in recessed metal cells rather than on the surface, so it cannot scratch off, and the raised metal lines between colours are what give enamel jewellery its crisp graphic quality.

Soft enamel leaves the metal lines standing proud of the colour, which you can feel with a fingernail — textured, traditional and slightly cheaper. Hard enamel is polished flat so the surface is completely smooth and glassy, which reads as the more premium finish.

A die is a one-time tooling cost that we keep on file, so a second colourway on the same shape costs far less than the first. Planning a range from the start rather than one design at a time changes the economics considerably.
